The Ramganga Lifeline

The Ramganga River flows straight through Dhikala. In dry months, hundreds of animals, including massive elephant herds and tigers, congregate on its banks, guaranteeing spectacular sightings.

Vast 'Chaurs' (Grasslands)

Unlike dense woodlands where visibility is low, Dhikala features massive open grasslands. The elevated seating of a Canter gives you a 360-degree panoramic view over this tall elephant grass.

Strictly Protected Core

Dhikala is the deepest core zone of Jim Corbett. Day-visitor private Jeeps are 100% banned here to protect the habitat. The Canter is your ONLY legal way in without an overnight booking.

Reporting at Dhangari Gate

Arrive at the gate. Our guide cross-checks your original ID proofs (Aadhaar/Passport) with the Forest Department permits. Board your designated 16-seater Canter.

Entering the Deep Jungle

The gates open. The first 30 kilometers take you through an extremely dense Sal forest. This stretch is famous for leopard sightings and barking deer.

07:15 AM (01:15 PM for Evening)

High Bank & Crocodile Point

A brief pause at elevated vantage points overlooking the Ramganga River. Use your binoculars to spot massive Mugger crocodiles basking on the riverbed.

Dhikala Campus & The Chaurs

Arrive at the main Dhikala campus. After a 15-minute restroom break, the Canter drives into the vast grasslands. This is prime Tiger tracking time. The elevated bus gives you clear views over the tall grass.

Return Journey Commences

Begin the drive back towards the exit. The changing light often brings out different wildlife, making the return trip just as exciting.

Why Book Early?

The Forest Department operates only 4 Canters per shift. That means only 64 seats are available in the morning and 64 in the evening for the entire world. Permits open 45 days in advance and usually sell out within hours. Booking 45-60 days prior is highly recommended.

Safari Essentials

The Canter is an open-air vehicle. Pack smart to ensure a comfortable journey.

Earth-Toned Clothing

Wear muted colors (green, brown, khaki). Avoid bright colors as they agitate wildlife. Layer up in winters.

Dust Protection

The 30km forest track gets extremely dusty. A scarf, buff, or dust mask along with sunglasses is mandatory.

Optics & Camera

Animals maintain a safe distance. Bring a good pair of binoculars and a camera with a telephoto lens (200mm+).

Water & Light Snacks

Carry a reusable water bottle and dry snacks. Strictly no plastic wrappers or littering allowed inside the park.

Strict Forest Rules

Original ID Mandatory: Guests must carry the exact ID (Aadhaar/Passport) used during booking. Entry denied otherwise.
No Cancellations: Permits are strictly 100% Non-Refundable, Non-Cancellable, and Non-Transferable.
Punctuality: Reach the boarding point 45 mins prior. The Canter will not wait for latecomers.
Stay Inside: Alighting from the Canter is strictly prohibited except at the Dhikala Campus.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I book a private Jeep instead for Dhikala?

No. Day-visitor private Jeeps are banned in the Dhikala zone. Jeeps are only allowed for tourists who have booked a night stay at the Dhikala Forest Rest House. If you are doing a day trip, the Canter Safari is your only option.

Where exactly do we board the Canter?

The Canter starts from the Corbett Tiger Reserve Ramnagar Reception and also picks up tourists from the Dhangari Gate (the entry point to Dhikala). You must arrange your own taxi/transport from your resort to the gate.

Is it safe for pregnant women or people with back issues?

While the Canter is very safe from wildlife, the 5-hour journey involves driving on extremely uneven, rocky, and bumpy forest tracks. Pregnant women and individuals with severe back or spinal issues are strongly advised not to undertake this safari.
